Mitigating Radon in Well Water
BEFORE it enters the home

Being of somewhat unfavorable genetics and loosing several loved ones to cancer made me very health conscious. When we found the most beautiful land to build our forever home, I knew I would have to take some extra health precautions for my family! The greatest risk is not the snakes or wild animals that share these woods with us but the unseen radon gas that comes from these beautiful granite boulders that are scattered throughout the property and lay deep in the ground. A gas that can sneak into our home through the foundation and come in through our faucets. A gas that can fill the bathroom after a shower. A gas that can be ingested with a cup of water. Over time that gas can cause serious health consequences like cancers, thyroid disease and dementia.
What did I do? We got our well water tested through the UGA extension service. Our local extension service sent our water sample off and we had results in a week or less. I am still surprised that radon testing is not required for all wells. Anyway, as expected we have radon in our water. Our levels were elevated at a little over 400 pCi / L (15.00 Bq / L).
Then what? We researched and researched well water mitigation systems. Although we do have a double carbon filtration system, we decided against this method for radon mitigation as it removes 95% at best and handling the filters seemed risky since they would likely be radioactive. That’s when we found Airwell. A company based out of Canada. Very simple but effective technology.

NOW…. Georgia has access! Gene is an authorized dealer for sales and installation in the Southeast! If you are close to or above the fall line then please get your water tested!! - Jennifer Silas Campbell
Radon comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water.
Radon gas can be found just about anywhere, and in any type of buildings
Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas.
Radon is tasteless, invisible, and produces no odor.
Testing is the only way to find out about your home's radon level.
You can fix a Radon problem.
The EPA, Surgeon General, and The Center for Disease Control have all agreed that continued exposure to Radon gas can cause lung cancer. In fact, their position on the matter is that all homes should be tested for radon gas exposure, and all homes testing over 4 pCi/L should be fixed.
Radon through the faucet.
Radon can present in well water and can be released into the air in your home when water is used for showering and other household uses.
New technology solves the problem of radon in well water before the water enters your home. Airwell sustains a “down the well” process indefinitely without debilitating scaling and bio-fouling. A pipe with an aeration section is inserted from top to bottom in the well through the addition of riser pipes. A low voltage compressor delivers air to the active section of the Airwell pipe. This creates a hydrodynamic pressure, causing water from the base of the well to rise through the pipe and be aerated through the active section.
The result: injected air will have stripped previously trapped gasses out of the water in the relatively pressurized conditions at the top of the well. Air access is restored to the water enabling the ventilation of gases, such as radon and methane, to the atmosphere.
